The following chart projects the latest music chart rankings based upon Pop songs streaming plays per Michael Douglas, MD, MBA. Note: This chart is valid for week ending 3/11/2017.
No (new) news is good news for Rick Springfield, as "Celebrate Youth (Dance Remix)" spends a second week at #1. It leads across all reporting streaming services, with its greatest numbers from Spotify. As stated in the column last week, this track will be #1 for more than a hot minute. The top three remains the same as tracks from The Chainsmokers ("Paris") and Rihanna ("Love On The Brain [Gigamesh Remix]") post strong gains, as they keep bullets. Heavy streaming numbers from Spotify account for over 95% of reporting data on those tracks.
The only new track to hit the the top ten on the Weekly Top 30 Pop Songs survey this week is by Joe Jackson. His "You Can't Get What You Want (Until You Know What You Want)" edges up 2 spots to #9. It shows its heavier growth from Apple Music. Last week's Streaming Gainer, it continues to build on that momentum as it tries to muscle its way up the top third of the survey.
Aided by a brand spankin' new video that features his dancin' chops, the track "That's What I Like" by the incomparable Bruno Mars flies up the survey to #15. The song is already Top Five in Billboard and grows steadily daily. Expect a Top Ten entry on this survey in the near future. The biggest surprise in the survey this week, however, comes from Jefferson Starship (back when Starship had the all important prefix to keep audiences interested in the their pivot to pop). From the 1977 top five Billboard 200 album Earth, "Love Too Good" is this week's major mover up the survey - up a massive 10 spots; it's easily this week's biggest streaming achiever. Spotify streaming on Dr. Douglas's pop Daily Mix playlist fuels this track's upward velocity. Chart watchers will recall the album's biggest hit, the Marty Balin-led "Count On Me" (#8 on the Billboard Hot 100).
The week ending 3/11/2017 yields the largest number of debuts on the survey to date, with 6 new tracks joining the fray. The Jones Girls' "2 Win U Back" leads the charge as this week's Hot Shot Debut at #22. All streaming points are from Spotify. The track is from the 1983 album On Target. Other tracks debuting include Post Malone's latest, "Congratulations" (w/ Quavo). Early streams come from Spotify's U.S. Viral 50 playlist. Other debuts - "Slide" (Calvin Harris's latest, featuring the red hot Migos and Frank Ocean); and the demo version of Fleetwood Mac's Top 20 hit "Seven Wonders". Interest in this track is in anticipation of the band's Tango In The Night 3CD reissue at the end of March. Hyped heavily by music blogs, the demo track finds a sweet debut on the survey at #29.
Tracks dropping out this week: "Batdance (Vicki Vale Remix)" (Prince); "I Feel It Coming" (The Weeknd); "Fake Love" (Drake); "One More Try" (Bell Biv DeVoe); "Child Of Vision" (Supertramp); "Beauty And The Beast" (Ariana Grande & John Legend)
